Writing new music is tough for me these days, and a lot of that has to do with have so many other hobbies taking up my attention. When I released my last single, Haunted, I already started the next song hoping to release sometime in 2024. However I faced some financial struggles and ended up living with my parents for about a year, which stifled my motivation and realistically, my ability to record in silence. This affected my podcast as well. You can read more about the situation in my main blog here.
Now that I have my own place again, I've ramped up my hobbies in full swing, including a second podcast. That has taken my main focus as we get it launched and keep momentum going as best we can. However I have now begun revisiting my new music I had started, and it's going slow but I'm making progress. In the meantime, I decided to start this new journey with a re-release of an older song.
I'm Left Here Sinking was the last song I wrote for my first album, Summer Rain, and it quickly became my favorite. It further explored the concept of heartbreak that was so prevalent to that album and my life at the time, when it felt like I wasn't managing to stay afloat in my grief and acceptance. I find that feeling never quite goes away, even 10 years later.
Listening back to it gave me some ideas to improve it and so I decided to re-release it and give it more attention. To some people it may not sound different but it has some added guitars and production touches that makes it sounds like something I can be even more proud of. I learned a bit from my time making Haunted, and I hope some of those techniques shine through this new mix.
